PITTSBURGH — Former Pitt Panthers running back Qadree Ollison was right at home when the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him to the practice squad earlier this season, but his time with the hometown team is over for now.

The Steelers released Ollison, their former neighbor from Pitt, this week to make room for linebacker David Perales to join their practice squad with thee team facing an injury-induced shortage at that position.

Ollison joined the Steelers during the first week of September and was elevated to the active roster for one game, a Week _ contest against the Cleveland Browns, but he did not appear in a game before being reverted to the practice squad and eventually cut.

Ollison was a fifth-round pick of the Falcons in 2019 and spent each of his first four seasons with them. He was cut in 2022 and spent some time with the Dallas Cowboys on their practice squad and limited games on the active roster before being cut again. Ollison appeared in 22 games over his career so far and has 44 carries for 158 yards and five touchdowns to his name.

During his career at Pitt, Ollison helped power the dominant rushing attack that carried the Panthers to their first ACC Championship appearance in 2018. He was also the 2015 ACC Rookie of the Year, after he rushed for more than 1,100 yards and 11 touchdowns while James Conner was out with a season-ending ACL injury. Ollison rushed for 2,859 yards and 29 scores as a Panther.
