Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Alerted After Securing Top Recruit
The Ohio State Buckeyes secured a top offensive line recruit on Saturday, with four-star prospect Jayvon McFadden committing to the team.
This is a significant development for Ohio State, which has struggled in recent years to establish a solid offensive line.
Consequently, offensive line coach Justin Frye has faced heavy criticism regarding his ability to attract top talent.
While McFadden’s commitment is a positive sign, it doesn’t necessarily ease Frye’s situation.
Ryan Stano of Scarlet & Game has cautioned that Frye remains “on the hottest seat possible” as the 2024 season approaches.
Stano acknowledges McFadden’s skills but argues that Frye might be overestimating the impact of this recruit.
He notes that the acquisition of McFadden follows the Buckeyes missing out on high-profile five-star recruits David Sanders and Josh Petty.
Stano even suggests that Frye could be dismissed after the season if Ohio State’s offensive line does not show significant improvement.
McFadden is a part of the highly-rated 2025 recruiting class, but Ohio State’s ongoing issues with offensive linemen could still jeopardize Frye’s future with the team.
The Buckeyes will kick off their regular season against Akron next Saturday.
