CLEVELAND, Ohio – At McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday night, the No. 5 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team defeated Akron by a score of 222.5-77.5, improving to 2-0 on the season.

The night’s two distance events were won by Gwen Woodbury. Her night began with a first-place finish in the 1000 free, clocking in at 9:55.95, and ended with a victory in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:55.49.

Additionally, Amy Fulmer won two races on her own, taking first place in the 100 and 200 free. In the 100 free, she touched the wall at 49.20, an NCAA B standard time; in the 200 free, it was 1:47.93.

The current Big Ten Diver of the Week, Lena Hentschel, maintained her dominance on the boards by taking first place in both the 1-meter (358.05) and 3-meter (365.85). These are qualifying scores for the NCAA Zones.

Janie Boyle (283.65) qualified for the NCAA Zones on the 1-meter as well. Michelle Mazzara (284.40) and Boyle (320.10) qualified for the NCAA Zones on the 3-meter.

In the 100 breast, Hannah Bach won her first race of the season in a time of 1:02.17.

Jessica Eden finished first in the 200 fly, clocking in at 2:00.55.

In 22.93, Katherine Zenick emerged victorious in the 50 free.

With a time of 1:59.99, Krista Marlin won the 200 back, her first victory as a Buckeye.

In the 200 breast, Reese Dehen finished first in 2:18.03.

With a time of 2:03.12, reigning Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Josephine Panitz took first place in the 200 IM.

The 200 medley relay team of Teresa Ivan, Panitz, Zenick, and Tristan Harrison gave the Buckeyes the early lead of the evening with a time of 1:39.04. The 400 free relay team consisting of Harrison, Fulmer, Ivan, and Zenick finished first with a time of 3:20.59 to cap off the evening.
