The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (13-19, 11-9 Horizon League) will host the Ohio State Buckeyes (16-19, 5-15 Big Ten last season) at Value City Arena on Monday night. The game tips off at 7 p.m.

Ohio State hopes to recover from a dismal 2022–23 campaign, win the Big Ten and secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Despite their lone noteworthy victory over Texas Tech, who were ranked 21 at the time, in the regular season, Ohio State appeared to be doomed in the year 2023. They had at least five separate game skids. They did, however, surprisingly make it to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, where they lost to No. 1 Purdue after winning both Iowa and Michigan State.

In 2023, Ohio State seemed doomed despite their one notable victory during the regular season over Texas Tech, who were ranked 21 at the time. They possessed a minimum of five distinct game skids. They did, however, unexpectedly advance to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, where, after defeating Michigan State and Iowa, they fell to No. 1 Purdue.

But Oakland has returned guard Blake Lampman, a graduate, junior forward Trey Townsend, and guard Rocket Watts, a transfer from Michigan State who is well-known to the Buckeyes.

With Ohio State’s guard dominance and paint presence, the three can hope to stay. For both teams to place first, they will need to replicate their entire 2017 campaign.

Live updates will show up below after the first kickoff.

A FIRST PART

Jack Gohlke, an Oakland graduate guard, scores the first basket.

Oakland falls behind the Grizzlies after back-to-back three-pointers from Gohlke and Lampman.
