Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers will miss the rest of the campaign.

After being traded in the offseason (via the Boston Celtics), Robert Williams III is now playing for the Portland Trail Blazers in his first season.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN recently revealed that Williams III would undergo knee surgery.

Wojnarowski now stated on Friday that the 26-year-old will miss the rest of the campaign.

According to Wojnarowski: “ESPN Sources: Portland Trail Blazers centre Robert Williams III will be required to undergo season-ending right knee surgery.”

According to Wojnarowski: “Williams III, who suffered damage to his kneecap and ligaments in a Sunday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2024-2025 season, sources said.”

Williams III shoots 65.4% from the field in six games to finish his career with averages of 6.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

After eight games, the Trail Blazers have a 3-5 record. Most recently, they were defeated 121-118 (in overtime) by the Sacramento Kings.

They will take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday (in California) as they look to snap a two-game losing streak.

Williams III played for the Boston Celtics for his first five seasons after being selected with the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draught.

Three times, he assisted them in reaching the Eastern Conference Finals (and the NBA Finals in 2022).

In 35 games (20 starts) last year, the former Texas A&M standout averaged 8.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 74.7% from the field.
