Packers Sign Running Back Kenyan Drake to Practice Squad

The Packers are thin in the backfield and a running back to the practice squad in hopes of sparking their run game.

Aaron Jones is out of the starting lineup for the Green Bay Packers due to a knee injury.

Behind AJ Dillon, they’ve gone through a few different running backs, including James Robinson and Patrick Taylor.

They seem to be attempting to add another runner at this point in order to improve their run production.

The Packers’ practice squad now includes Kenyan Drake, a source confirmed to Packer Central. James Robinson was cut by the Packers from the practice squad in retaliation.

AJ Dillon has been starting in Aaron Jones’ place, but he has been recovering from a groin injury of his own.

Dillon managed eighteen of the Packers’ twenty-one traditional rush attempts against the Chiefs on Sunday night.

Drake spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins after being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, and then he moved on to Arizona.

Drake has been in Las Vegas, both of those locations, and most recently, the Baltimore Ravens.

Drake received one carry during the season and participated in one game with the Ravens this year.

In addition, he lost a fumble and caught two passes. Since that 22-19 defeat to the Indianapolis Colts, with whom he played during the preseason, he has amassed a statistic.

Drake could benefit the Packers by giving their backfield passing game more vigor.

In that sense, AJ Dillon has been adequate, but Patrick Taylor has accounted for the majority of passing downs.

Although Taylor has six receptions for 32 yards this season, he is a good pass protector.

Throughout his career, Drake has shown greatness as a pass catcher out of the backfield.

This includes obtaining 477 yards and 53 receptions in 2018.

Drake’s speed is his greatest potential contribution to the Packers. Although he won’t be able to replace Christian Watson, who left the game on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, the Packers’ backfield currently lacks much speed.

Despite being a strong runner, Dillon will not flee from anyone. Drake has more speed than Patrick Taylor, despite Taylor’s strong pass protection.
