St. Louis Cardinals announce Yadier Molina’s new position with team
Yadier Molina was named special assistant to the president of baseball operations by the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The new role’s responsibilities were not disclosed by the team, but an MLB insider recently revealed that it would not be a full-time position.
The storied Cardinals catcher will not play a full-time role with the team in the upcoming season, according to a social media post by ESPN’s Enrique Rojas and the Spanish-language website GrandesEnLosDeportes.com, citing “family matters.” According to Rojas, Molina will join the team as a special advisor and make scheduled visits during the regular season and spring training.
Molina played for the Cardinals for 19 years, but he only paid a few trips to St. Louis in 2023. He
Another one of Molina’s former teammates, Daniel Descalso, will be joining the coaching staff for 2024. Earlier this month, the Cardinals announced the 2011 World Series Champion will serve as a bench coach during the 2024 season.
