The Miami football team lost more depth at edge rusher on Wednesday when Cyrus Moss, a redshirt freshman, declared his intention to use the transfer portal. Moss participated in two games in 2023 with one assisted tackle and three as a true freshman without registering any stats.

Cyrus Moss, a redshirt freshman, announced on Wednesday that he intended to use the transfer portal, meaning the Miami football team lost even more depth at edge rusher. In 2023, Moss played in two games as a true freshman and three as a helper without recording any stats.

The ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year award went to rookie Rueben Bain. Nyljalik Kelly, a sophomore, was making early starts the season before suffering an injury that ended it. Miami is expected to return redshirt freshman Jayden Wayne at edge rusher and Akheem Mesidor in addition to Bain and Kelly.

It is anticipated that Collins Acheampong, a freshman with defensive end and tackle versatility, will rejoin Miami in 2024. Edge rushers Elias Rudolph, Booker Pickett Jr., Marquise Lightfoot, and Cole McConathy have committed to Miami in the 2024 class. McConathy is a three-star prospect, while Lightfoot, Pickett, and Rudolph are four-star prospects.

Miami has the option to use the transfer portal to add more seasoned depth at edge rusher. Mesidor is also making a comeback from an injury that ended his 2023 season. In 2024, Miami ranked 17th with 2.92 sacks per game and 20th nationally with an average of 6.92 tackles for loss. Excellent work by Mario Cristobal and his team has increased the depth of edge rushers.

With the talent added at edge rusher to the Miami football program, it was inevitable they were going to lose depth at edge rusher. Miami will be extremely young at edge rusher in 2024 if the Hurricanes do not add an experienced transfer. Edge rusher has become a position to watch for Miami in the transfer portal.
