Broncos Waive OLB Ronnie Perkins

Denver Broncos release OLB Ronnie Perkins, spot freed up on 53-man roster - Mile High Sports

The Denver Broncos announced on Thursday that they had waived outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins, making a change to their active roster heading into Week 15.

After being added to the Patriots practice squad in September, Perkins played in five games, mostly as a backup for the Broncos. In 109 defensive snaps, he recorded six solo tackles, two tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits.

The notable aspect of Perkins’ release is that it further reduces the depth of Denver’s edge-rushing group without important backup Nik Bonitto, who is sidelined for Saturday’s game against the Lions because of a knee injury.

On the depth chart, Thomas Incoom and Drew Sanders are positioned behind Bonitto. To fill the opening on its 53-man roster, the team may promote recently signed OLB Durell Nchami from the practice squad.

Additionally, tight end Lucas Krull is “expected” to be promoted from the taxi squad after using up all three of his elevations, so it’s possible, if not likely, that the Broncos will bench Perkins in favor of Krull. Greg Dulcich (hamstring/foot) will miss another week due to injury.

“TE Greg Dulcich (hamstring, foot) and OLB Nik Bonitto (knee) are out for the #Broncos’ game against Detroit on Saturday. They waive OLB Ronnie Perkins, and Lucas Krull, a tight end, is anticipated to be signed off the practice squad to take his spot, according to Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette on Thursday.
