In January, the Magpies might be looking to add another forward.

Alan Shearer urges Newcastle to re-sign forward to increase Wilson and Isak competition - Chronicle Live

Ivan Toney, a forward for Brentford, should be re-signed by Newcastle United, according to legend Alan Shearer, who urged his old team to try during the January transfer window.

Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, two forwards for the Magpies, have both scored goals this season at a very impressive clip. But because of their respective injuries this season, there are calls for the Magpies to add a third striker during the transfer window that opens next month.

Shearer concurs with that idea and has urged United to attempt to re-sign Toney, even though he is out of commission until January 2016.

“I believe he is a really good option and player, and Newcastle needs to get better in that area. I don’t think there will be a shortage of people interested in Ivan Toney; they need another body in there.”

With 32 goals in 66 Premier League games for Brentford, Toney has an outstanding record. Returning to Newcastle would bring him full circle after he left the Magpies in August 2018 to play for Peterborough United.

The England international has acknowledged that he believes he would be a great fit at Arsenal, but he has also been linked to a move to the Gunners.

“I think with who they have on either side down the flanks, I think he would have a field day with the amount of crosses into the box,” Shearer responded when questioned about Arsenal’s alleged interest in Toney.
