St. Louis was seven points off of a wild-card playoff place with a record of 7-9-3 when Berube took over as head coach in November 2018. Before beginning the incredible comeback that saw them finish the season 45-28-9 and in third place in the Central Division, the team dropped all the way to last place in the NHL. They defeated the Dallas Stars (seven games), the San Jose Sharks (six games), and the Winnipeg Jets (six games) in the playoffs before defeating the Boston Bruins in a seven-game Stanley Cup Final at home.
