Former FSU football star’s brother intends to walk on to the Seminoles.

The announcement last week that 2024 athlete Jeremiah Johnson would be wearing garnet and gold, following in his brother’s footsteps, was a special pledge for the Seminoles in more ways than one. Johnson is the younger brother of Jermaine Johnson, a standout defensive end for the New York Jets and a former Florida State standout.

Although Johnson was only in Tallahassee for a single year in 2021, he played a crucial role in Florida State’s turnaround under Mike Norvell. After racking up 70 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass deflections, and a defensive touchdown, he was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year and was named first-team all-conference and All-American.

Johnson was ultimately chosen by the Jets with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after they were sufficiently impressed. He recently made his debut with the team in the Pro Bowl. Despite everything, Johnson has continued to visit Florida State during the past two years, and in 2023, an All-American brick will be dedicated outside the Moore Athletic Center in his honor.

The younger Johnson has remained in the area for the past few years, suiting up for Gadsden County High School, Robert F. Munroe Day School, and North Florida Christian. In his junior year, he had 145 tackles, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles while playing linebacker and running back in prep school.
