Pete Alonso talks about Carlos Mendoza, the Mets’ first victory, and the game-tying home run.
When Pete Alonso caught a pitch from Alex Faedo in the ninth inning, he knew he had tied the game. Alonso: “It seemed to go on forever. was a lot of fun. That one was essential.” Moments later, Tyrone Taylor scored the winning goal, and Alonso was particularly pleased for manager Carlos Mendoza to have his first victory as a major league manager. “I’m thrilled for Mendoza. He played professional baseball for a long time, so it’s great to see him win. I’m glad to have contributed to something for him; maybe we can keep this momentum going into Cincy.”
