Following a sluggish start to the season, outfielder Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals has been sent to the minor leagues.

Prior to the Cardinals’ victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday afternoon, Zack Thompson, a left-handed pitcher, and Walker were sent to Triple-A Memphis by the Cardinals. Jose Fermin, an infielder, and John King, a left-hander, were recalled from Memphis in matching moves.

Walker, age 21, is at bat.155 in 20 games this season, his second with the Cardinals, with no home runs, four RBIs, and a.497 OPS. Over his previous 11 games, the former top prospect had been stuck in a 3-for-27 slump.

The six-foot-six Walker is among a number of players for the Cardinals (10-14) who are having offensive difficulties. As of Wednesday, the team has just 16 home runs, which is second fewest in the league.
