As Mark Pope began assembling his first Kentucky basketball team, an odd thing happened. John Calipari left the cupboard empty for his successor when he moved from Lexington to Arkansas last month. That individual proved to be Pope, who arrived in the city with the enormous responsibility of assembling a squad from the ground up. Pope, who was regarded as an innovator in offense during his tenure as head coach at BYU, was expected to transform UK’s program in that direction upon his arrival. This included developing a dynamic scoring strategy based on a methodical approach to putting the ball in the basket.
