Teams can buy out contracts until June 30 at 5 PM, 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends.
The Athletic and The Daily Faceoff mentioned Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau as a possible buyout candidate this past week.
There is no denying that Pageau is an important member of the Islanders’ roster. He is counted on to play on both special teams units, win important draws, and shut down the top players in the league.
However, Pageau wasn’t good enough for a player earning $5 million a year, as evidenced by his lack of offensive and general struggles in 2023–24. As a result, he will be under contract through 2025–26.
