Coral Springs, Florida — Tyler Van Dyke, the quarterback for Miami, is leaving the Hurricanes.

Van Dyke revealed the transfer portal entry on Monday night in a social media post, citing the fourth-year junior.

“I want to thank the University of Miami, my teammates, coaching staff, and everyone associated with the University who have made this chapter in my life truly special and invaluable,” Van Dyke wrote on X, which used to be Twitter. “I have made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime, which I will always treasure. I am incredibly grateful for all of the chances and encounters that have shaped me while I’ve been here.”

Following Van Dyke’s loss of the starting position to true freshman Emory Williams, the move was anticipated.

In his three seasons as the starting quarterback, Van Dyke was the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the year with a 14-11 record; however, after head coach Mario Cristobal took over the previous season, he struggled with injuries and appeared to regress.

Van Dyke throws for 7,478 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in his final game for Miami. He added two touchdowns on the ground as well.

“I am looking forward to the next chapter and what my future holds,” wrote Van Dyke in a letter.

Williams and former four-star recruit Jacurri Brown, who committed to the Hurricanes in the 2022 class, are the only players from Miami left after his departure.

In 2024, Van Dyke will still be eligible for one more season.

Miami is qualified for the bowl, but the location is not yet known. Given the injury to Williams and the departure of Van Dyke, Brown is virtually guaranteed a starting position.
