Following his and his wife’s kidnapping on Saturday, hundreds of people gathered in Barrancas on Tuesday night to demand Luis Manuel Diaz, the father of Liverpool star Luis Diaz, be released safely.

While purchasing watermelons at a gas station, Diaz’s parents were abducted from the streets of their hometown in the Colombian La Guajira region by four armed men riding motorcycles.

Later that evening, Diaz’s mother Cilenis Marulanda was set free; however, Diaz Sr. is still held captive, and Colombia’s armed forces and police are collaborating to try and rescue him.

Although army comandos have been dispatched to guard the border and stop Diaz’s father from being transported into neighbouring Venezuela, it’s possible that he has already passed through the thick jungle dividing the two countries.

Tuesday was designated as the march day. Diaz broke his social media silence to announce the event, stating that attendees should bring candles to light the light of hope and that they were pleading with Diaz Sr.’s captors to “free him now.

According to reports from Colombia, the Diaz family was alerted to possible threats prior to the kidnapping that occurred over the weekend.

Marulanda led the march, one of many donning a white t-shirt bearing her husband’s picture.

As night fell, those in attendance lit candles and carried white balloons. They also carried banners with appeals to his captors on them.
