“They provide their employees with programme training. In addition, they’re a developmental programme,” Schiano stated regarding Iowa.

Kirk Ferentz, the Iowa head coach since 1999, was given credit by Schiano for the program’s success.

The Hawkeyes’ defence, which will present a test for Rutgers’ offence, was also commended by Schiano.

“They have a philosophy on how to play defence, and they stick to it,” Schiano stated. “It’s not that they don’t tweak anything from time to time, but they know how they want to play.”

tball team’s Saturday game against Iowa, head coach Greg Schiano and senior linebacker Mohamed Toure addressed the media. Against the Hawkeyes (7-2, 4-2) on the road, the Scarlet Knights (6-3, 3-3) will try to win their first game in programme history.

Going into great detail about the development and training that No. 22 Iowa has received over the past few seasons, Schiano praised the Hawkeyes’ developmental system.

Toure is one of the Knights’ six team captains. Schiano spoke about the leaders’ influence and the initiative with which they mentor their colleagues and support the leadership council.

“When I need quick decisions, I gather the six, and we kind of make a move,” Schiano explained. “One of the things that has really gotten better here is the leadership, but that’s all understanding the culture and the willingness to live out the culture because the culture is really hard to live.”

Speaking about his time as team captain, Toure indicated that the team as a whole, not just the leaders, is what drives Rutgers.

“We just keep each other up and continue to talk to each other,” Toure stated. “We just stay on top of each other through practise and practise after practise. That seems to be the most crucial factor. To be honest, I think that’s what we do best: staying on top of each other and holding each other responsible.”

Toure stated that the Knights’ weekly goal is always the same: winning to cap off the weekend.

“We attack every game with the same mentality,” Toure stated. “We’re going into this week with the same vision, mentality and goal, coming out 1-0.”

The Rutgers vs. Iowa game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Iowa City. Both 88.7 WRSU FM and the Big Ten Network will carry the game.

“Going into one of the toughest places to play in America against a team that’s leading the Big Ten West 7-2, we got a big challenge ahead of us,” Schiano stated.
